EVENT TITLE: The Life of a Book – From Manuscript to Print

Date: Saturday, June 14, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Location: INTI EDITIONS, 2 Rue des Bernadaous, 65200 Aste

Description:

This full-day educational event aims to demystify the publishing process for the general public by showcasing the entire journey of a book from raw manuscript to final printed copy. Designed for curious minds of all ages, “The Life of a Book” blends theory with live demonstrations, open discussions, and participatory activities.

Morning Session (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM):

We begin with a session titled “From Idea to Manuscript.” A professional author and editor will walk participants through the developmental phases of writing—idea generation, structure planning, writing strategies, and revision processes. Emphasis will be placed on the collaborative relationship between writer and editor. Attendees will see examples of real manuscripts, including annotations and tracked changes that reveal the dialogue between creators and editors.

Following this, there will be a live editing demonstration. A selected paragraph will be workshopped in real-time by an editor in front of the group, illustrating decision-making, tone adjustments, and clarity improvements.

Lunch Break (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM):
A casual outdoor picnic-style lunch will be hosted in the garden courtyard, allowing for open conversation with speakers and team members of INTI EDITIONS.

Afternoon Session (2:00 PM – 5:30 PM):

The second half of the day is titled “From Page Layout to Print.” Visitors will learn about the layout and design process from an editorial designer. Using visual examples projected on screen, the session will explain margins, font choices, paper weight, and color palettes. A live demonstration of InDesign layout software will show how a basic document becomes a designed book page.

The final portion focuses on printing and binding. A representative from a local printing studio will show different types of printing options and binding techniques. A hands-on workshop will allow each participant to bind a small booklet using basic tools—showing the beauty and complexity of even the simplest printed material.

Conclusion:

By the end of the event, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the bookmaking process. They’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation for the work behind every book and a printed booklet they created themselves. Attendees will also receive a takeaway brochure summarizing each step of the editorial chain with reading suggestions and glossary terms.
